Spring Pie Social
Join your friends and neighbors for an evening of food and fun! The Spring Pie Social will be held at the Community Center on Saturday, May 3, 2025. Enjoy a dinner of homemade chili (by donation) and top it off with a slice of pie created by one of our community pie bakers! Whole pies will also be available for purchase. Listen to music provided by the Swan Range Jammers. The 2025 raffle quilt will be on display and tickets available for purchase. Shake off those winter doldrums and get ready for a summer of fun in Mountain Brook!

5th Annual Plant Sale
The Mountain Brook Homestead Foundation is once again proud to present its annual fundraising plant sale. Now in its fifth year, this sale features beautiful vegetable, flower, and herb plants grown by local Mountain Brook gardeners, ready for planting in your own garden. Choose from a wide selection of varieties known to do well in our area, but come early for best selection!

Fall Pie Social
You are invited to join us for the Mountain Brook Homestead Foundation Fall Pie Social, Saturday, September 6, 2025 from 4-7 pm at the Community Center. Enjoy a delicious dinner of nachos and pulled pork (by donation), listen to the Swan Range Jammers, visit with your neighbors, and top it all off with a slice of homemade pie. Whole pies will also be available for purchase.
A drawing will be held that evening for the winner of the annual raffle quilt. Tickets will be available for purchase until the time of the drawing.

Harvest Tasting Party
Come for a no-host party to share tastes of our homegrown produce. Please bring at least one labeled plate of something you're excited about from your garden. If you do not have garden produce to share, join us anyway and contribute a plate of other finger foods as a palate cleanser (cheese, homemade bread, etc.) Your label should include the produce variety and your name, but you may also include additional growing information such as seed source or variety description. Plates and utensils will be provided.

Community Apple Pressing
Press your own apples or use some provided. Bring your own containers. Call 406-314-8232 if you have a press you'd be willing to share for the day.

Easter Crafts and Activities
Kids will enjoy a baked French toast supper; receive six hardboiled eggs for dyeing; and participate in crafts, active movement, and an egg hunt. $10.00 per child. Must preregister (below) by noon Sunday, April 13, 2025. Parents are always welcome to attend.

Campus Clean-Up Day
Bring your yard tools and some elbow grease and help make the Mountain Brook campus sparkle! We’ll be doing some basic clean-up around the property in preparation for our spring events. All are welcome!

Beginning Sewing
Learn the basics of sewing with a sewing machine while you make a fun and useful pillowcase! No experience required and all materials—including the machine—will be provided for you. (If you have a sewing machine in working condition, you may bring it.) Cost is $35 and registration is required to reserve a place in the class. If there is enough interest, we will add a second session in the afternoon.

Christmas Gift Workshop
Make gifts for friends and family!
15+ gifts & ornaments for school aged children to make! Bring a sack lunch and outdoor clothes for lunch recess.

Holiday Wreath-Making Workshop
Join us at the Mountain Brook Community Center for a fun and festive evening workshop where you will construct your own unique winter wreath. Everything you need to create your one-of-a-kind wreath will be provided! Adorn your wreath with a variety of natural and ornamental touches and within a few hours you will have a beautiful wreath reflective of your unique style and personality. Snacks and hot cider will be provided. Cost is $60 and class size is limited to 10 people so get your Fa-La-La on, grab your friends, and register soon for this enjoyable evening. The workshop will be led by Melody Pieri, who has hosted wreath-making parties with friends just to share the fun!

Soup Making Class
Learn how to make chicken bone broth from a rotisserie chicken, and then learn how to use this broth to make chicken noodle soup and chicken tortilla soup. This is a hands-on class, so come prepared to do some chopping and measuring. You will go home with three recipes that can be adapted for a variety of diets and tastes. Start with a classic chicken noodle soup and learn how to elevate it to a gourmet soup. The chicken tortilla soup can be adapted to suit the taste of those who prefer a mild soup or for those who prefer a truly spicy soup. Bring an apron and two containers to take some soup home. Cost is $25 per person and pre-registration is required. Limit 8.

Soapmaking Class
Learn to make homemade goat milk soap with Chelsey Luehr. If you missed the last class, here is another chance. Start from scratch and create your own naturally scented and colored cold-process soap, in approximately 2.5 hours. You will come home with a 3 lb block of soap. Keep it for your bath or give it as gifts. Class cost is $30 and will benefit the Mountain Brook Homestead Foundation. Limited to 10 students.

Introduction to Grafting Apples: Whip & Tongue and Bark Inlay
Spring is the usual time for grafting apples, but a class in March is too late for ordering the root stock and scion wood of your choice. Winter is the best time for collecting or ordering scion wood to graft onto that root stock. Join local orchardist Susan Horner-Till for a class on the decisions you need to make BEFORE you graft: site, growing system, root stock, scion collecting, tools, and supplies. She’ll point you to good sources and videos on technique. You’ll be ready for action in March. Creating the apple tree you want is fun. Your success improves when you get the details right. This class is a fundraiser for the Mountain Brook Homestead Foundation. All donations go to support the Mountain Brook Community Center.

Art Class With Sunnie LeBlanc
Join nationally-known artist Sunnie LeBlanc for a three-hour class on oil painting “En Plein Air” (painting outdoors). Cost is $25 and pre-registration by August 3, 2024 is required.
Location will be near to the Mountain Brook Community Center at 2353 Foothill Rd. Exact location details will be provided to each student.
Class is limited to 12 adults, beginner to advanced artists.
Supplies needed include Julian style easels, oil paint brushes, oil paints, paper towels, 8x10 or 9x12 prepared canvases or panels, gamsol turpentine. Some supplies will be available on location by reservation.
LeBlanc is a nationally known oil painter who considers painting out of doors so rewarding. She is a painter of grizzly bears, big horn sheep and landscapes of her beloved Montana.

Intro to Canning Class—afternoon session

Community Yard Sale
The Third Annual Community Yard Sale will be held at the Mountain Brook Community Center on Saturday, June 22 from 9 am to 4 pm.
Interested in selling? A 20’ x 20’ space is available for $20. A clearance fee of $20 will be returned upon full clean-up of your booth space.
A limited number of 8' tables are available to rent on a first-reserved basis. The cost is $5 for Foundation members and $10 for non-members.
Interested in buying? Come and spend a few hours shopping and visiting with friends.
Vendors, please download and submit a copy of the Vendor Agreement with your $40 payment mailed to the Mountain Brook Homestead Foundation, 2353 Foothill Rd, Kalispell, MT 59901. You may also pay for a booth online, but the Vendor Agreement still has to be signed and submitted. Don’t wait—spots sold out quickly last year!

Hands-On Genealogy Workshop
Join Chelsey Luehr for hands-on genealogy research and discovery assistance using online and other resources. The cost is $10 and attendance is limited to 10 people.

Free Genealogy seminar
Chelsey Luehr will be teaching a free genealogy seminar on May 7th at 6:30 pm for all who would like to attend. Discover your roots! Bring what information you have for yourself, parents and grandparents. We'll teach you how to add to it! Please RSVP to Chelsey so we know how many attendees to expect.
A follow-up workshop will happen May 14th at 6:30 pm with hands-on research and discovery assistance. There is room for 10 people in the workshop. Cost is $10 and pre-registration (below) is required.

Clothing Swap
Time to swap out those clothing items that you just don’t wear anymore, but someone else will LOVE! That’s right, bring in 10 pieces of clothing* (clean and unstained), check them in when you arrive, and receive 10 buttons in place of them. Browse the tables for “New to You” items, then pay for them with the buttons. Oh wait! Please don’t leave yet! Stay and hang out, while you enjoy music, snacks, and chatting away with New and Old neighbors.
*Not accepted: accessories, footwear, hats, jewelry, socks, undergarments, swimsuits, sleepwear.

Fill A Bag Book Sale
The Mountain Brook Community Library is clearing out some of its excess inventory. Come and fill a bag for $5 any time from 10 am to 2 pm.

Pizza and Board Games Day
It’s a No School Day! (President’s Day) Come have fun at the Mountain Brook Community Center!
Make your own pizza, play games, and have fun. Ages 5-12. Pre-registration is required (below). Maximum 20 children.

"Easy As Pie" Crust-Making Class
Taught by Sarah Anderson and Susan Horner-Till, two pie baking grandmas. For the person who hesitates to play with pie crust, this class features recipes, tips, and fun techniques for easy and delicious regular and gluten-free pie crusts.
Bring a 9 inch pie plate (metal or glass), rolling pin and apron. Return home with a pie ready for the oven. (Apples will be provided. If you want a different kind of pie, bring your preferred filling.) Cost $25 per person. Class size limit 10 people. Pre-register below.

Plant Sale Planning Meeting
The planning committee for the 2024 Plant Sale will meet Sunday, January 21, from 6-7:30 pm at the Community Center. New volunteers welcome! We will be deciding on inventory for this year’s sale and assigning growers. We can always use more people willing to grow a few extra plants to donate to the sale.

Native Plants and Trees of Mountain Brook
Join representatives from Flathead Conservation District for a presentation and discussion on the native wildflowers, trees, and shrubs of the Mountain Brook community.
Learn what these species are and how you can help them thrive on your property, to provide beauty and visual interest all year and support native pollinators, birds, and wildlife.

Business Fair
Held in conjunction with the Apple Pressing Day, this event will feature local businesses coming together at the Mountain Brook Community Center!
If you have skills, certifications, services, or any local business that you would like to promote, there will be tables/chairs available at this event at no cost! Set up as you like!
If you have a honey-do list that needs to get done before winter, or are just curious to see the many talents that our community has, come on out and meet and greet while sipping on fresh apple cider!
Bring a box of apples to share.

Picnic at the Plaid Swan

YEAR’S DATE AND TIME!
The 60 acres comprising Plaid Swan Ranch & Cottages and Red Ryder Llama Farm will be open to the public for a special day of food and fun. Take a relaxing stroll through the many gardens, visit “Cluckingham Palace,” and enjoy a variety of exhibits and displays. Many in the neighborhood will recognize this property as the former Avalanche Ranch. So much has changed in the last several years! The current owners are bringing the property back to life and this is your chance to see the many changes first-hand while supporting your local community organization.
A special picnic luncheon will be prepared for each attendee, complete with a camp blanket and wicker basket to take to one of the many beautiful picnic spots. Gates will open at 11 am. Attendees will have several hours to enjoy the grounds, which feature soothing evergreen spaces, a pond (with turtles!), and several vegetable, berry, and cut flower gardens. Sixteen llamas—with three new babies arriving this spring—four alpacas, and two miniature donkeys will be in residence for visitors to hand feed and enjoy. This event will also feature artisans from our community offering products, displays, and information.
Don’t miss this special opportunity to enjoy a wonderful afternoon of delicious food, community interaction, peace, and enjoyment in a beautiful setting! Tickets are $50 per person; $90 for two, or $180 for four. Make it a fun outing with friends and family but don’t delay! Tickets will be available for purchase at all of our upcoming events, including the pie social, plant sale, and yard sale, or during Library hours at the Community Center on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 5-8 pm.
