Introduction to Grafting Apples: Whip & Tongue and Bark Inlay

Spring is the usual time for grafting apples, but a class in March is too late for ordering the root stock and scion wood of your choice. Winter is the best time for collecting or ordering scion wood to graft onto that root stock. Join local orchardist Susan Horner-Till for a class on the decisions you need to make BEFORE you graft: site, growing system, root stock, scion collecting, tools, and supplies. She’ll point you to good sources and videos on technique. You’ll be ready for action in March. Creating the apple tree you want is fun. Your success improves when you get the details right. This class is a fundraiser for the Mountain Brook Homestead Foundation. All donations go to support the Mountain Brook Community Center.
