What We Do
“There is no power greater for change than a community discovering what it cares about.”
—Margaret J. Wheatley
Our Mission
The Mountain Brook Homestead Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 2002 for the purpose of preserving the historic Mountain Brook Campus located at 2353 Foothill Road, Kalispell, Montana.
What We’ve Achieved
The Mountain Brook Homestead Foundation was established in 2002 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization to preserve the Mountain Brook campus and its two buildings. The Cayuse Prairie School District oversaw the campus and leased it to the Foundation until 2020, when the property reverted back to a local family per the terms established in 1927. That family, in turn, donated the property to the Mountain Brook Homestead Foundation.
The Mountain Brook Community Library is housed in the more modern of the two buildings. All 12,000 books, DVDs, videos, and computers were donated. The library is staffed by volunteers.
The campus can be rented and serves as a community center.
The Mountain Brook Homestead Foundation holds pie socials twice a year to promote community and to raise funds.
Local community members present educational programs on various topics such as soap making, seed starting, and cider pressing.
We offer several annual programs for children.
A fundraising plant sale is held annually in the spring, featuring plants raised by local gardeners.
A Community Yard Sale is held in June on the Mountain Brook campus and provides an opportunity to set up a space for selling merchandise and un-needed belongings.
Our GoALS
We want to preserve Mountain Brook’s history by restoring the original schoolhouse building and making it a center for community activities.
We want to strengthen our long tradition of community involvement. We can do great things when we come together!
We want to educate, inform, and provide opportunities for neighbors to get to know each other.
